Erik Birch, Harbor Springs
Erik has been creating building material estimates for the Customers of Preston Feather Building Centers since 1992. As an estimator, Erik has seen blueprints for hundreds of projects built in northwest Lower Michigan. Our Customers have come to rely on the accuracy and efficiency with which Erik completes his take-offs. He enjoys his job describing it as, “a different challenge every day.”
Prior to joining Preston Feather Building Centers, Erik worked a variety of jobs while raising a family and attending school. After graduating from Pellston High school, he attended Calvin College, North Central Michigan College and Lake Superior State University. He holds two engineering degrees, one in applied sciences; the other in drafting technology.
When he’s not working at Preston Feather, Erik enjoys designing homes and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoys most outdoor activities including golf, gardening and fishing.

Wally Goodspeed, Petoskey
Wally provides our Customers with estimating services at our Petoskey store. As he describes it, “I decipher building construction plans to create detailed construction material list.” In his position, a job worth doing is worth doing well, “I aim to get it right the first time.” Wally prides himself with neat and accurate work.
Since joining Preston Feather Building Centers nearly two years ago, Wally says what he likes about the company is, “I have always enjoyed product design and solving design problems. I get satisfaction from a job well done. At Preston Feather I am given the freedom to do both and I believe it is appreciated.” He in turn appreciates that everyone he works with does their best and cares.
When he’s not at the drawing board at Preston Feather, Wally might be found sailing the lakes in the area, or working on projects around his house and yard. He and his wife are parents to two grown children and reside in Petoskey.
