Moeller Drive History
A Look Back at the Construction Project
A New Facility
Our flagship location, 900 Spring Street in Petoskey, will continue business as usual. There are no plans to close this location.
Ground Breaking Completed
July 29, 2004After a few delays, we formally broke ground on our new Harbor Springs facility on Thursday July 29. If all goes well, we should be open for business there in the spring. Pictured from left: Ron Foeller, Scott Sanders, Tim Lancaster, Ferd Dielman, Kate Scollin and Steve LaVictor.
The Block Goes Up
One week after ground breaking the project is beginning to take shape. The cement block foundation on the main building is going up quickly.
Lumber Sheds Begun
Work has begun on the front lumber sheds, and dirt is still being moved around on the rest of the site.
The Sheds Take Shape
The walls of the first two lumber sheds are taking shape this week, with trusses expected to be set next week. Once complete, Preston Feather will have a total of eight outbuildings and a retail facility of approximately 24,000 square feet.
Shed Trusses are Set
A little rain does not get in the way today. The crane is on site setting trusses for our new lumber sheds on Moeller Drive in Harbor Springs.
Lumber Sheds Coming Along
The trusses are complete ready for the roofing phase.
Retail Showroom Walls Begin
On the north side of the property will sit our new showroom - lumber yard retail store. This week the walls have begun to take shape.
Retail Showroom Walls Progress
Nearly all four walls of our huge new design showroom and lumber store are complete this week.
Site Work for Additional Lumber Sheds
Site work for an additional two lumber sheds continues this week with plans for another two sheds to be mapped out in the next few weeks. We will open with a total of six outbuildings.
Roof Goes on Lumber Sheds
A shiny green metal roof is being applied to our street-side lumber sheds. In addition, the siding is being applied in two colors.
Retail Showroom Trusses Go Up
With a couple of cranes on site, the roof trusses for the retail store begin to take shape. They will be working hard the rest of the week to complete the roof.
Showroom Interior
The interior of our new Harbor Springs lumberyard and design showroom is going to be huge. The sheathing on roof and walls is being applied this week.
A Little Cookout
Upon near completion of the new retail showroom, Troy Bamberg hosted an impromptu cookout for the Preston Feather staff. He wanted as many of our crew as possible to check out the progress, and see just how big the new store will be.
First Paving Layer Applied
The first layer of ashphalt has been applied to our new facility. Getting in and out is now much easier and the grounds are much more attractive.
Framing Continues on Distribution Center Buildings
One of two buildings that will house what is now known as our Emmet Street Distribution Center is shown here. Plans call for Emmet to relocate here by the end of February.
Interior Wall Framing
Work continues on the Retail Showroom building with the interior walls shaping up. The retail facility will house our lumber, hardware and design showroom in a generous 25,000 square feet.
Emmet Street Begins the Move
The move from Emmet Street will begin Saturday January 15, 2005. The two completed lumber sheds, in the southwest corner of the property, will begin receiving some of the in-stock building materials currently housed at the Emmet Street yard. The weather will not be too friendly to our crew; wind chills are predicted to be -12 to -15 degrees.
Siding Application Begins
Fibre-Cement siding is now being installed on our new retail showroom building. Shown is a combination of stucco and bevel styles.
Inside the Showroom
Progress continues inside our 25,000 square foot retail building. Wiring, insulation and ceilings are coming along well. Our design team is working on plans for kitchen & bath displays and the window & door displays.
Our New Sheds Are Huge
Overstock building materials have been moved from Emmet Street to one of the brand new lumber sheds in Harbor Springs. There is still plenty of room. Over the next several weeks new racking systems and lighting will be added to the sheds.
Progress on ESO Buildings
Inclement weather has been a factor in the completion of the two buildings that will house our ESO operation. This week you can see that much progress has been made closing them in. We have begun to move building materials from Emmet Street and anticipate moving cabinetry, windows, etc. in just a few more weeks.
A New Loading Dock
From inside Building H, we see a two-truck loading dock. This is one of two buildings that will become the specialty products shipping and receiving facilities and will house our window assembly workshop.
Racking Systems Installed
The lumber racking and storage systems are currently being installed. We are slowly but surely filling those racks with building materials moved from Emmet Street.
Drywall Goes Up
The dryall application to the interior of our new retail showroom and lumber facility is nearly completed. As each phase is completed, it becomes more apparant just how large this new store in Harbor Springs will be.
First Delivery to Moeller Drive
March 14, 2005On Monday, March 14, the first delivery of Andersen Windows was made to our new shipping and receiving center on Moeller Drive. On hand to receive the merchandise were Sean Stine, Barry Compton, Steve Wiatrolik and Steve LaVictor. We project the move from Emmet Street to Moeller Drive will be totally completed by the end of March. Our address is 8600 Moeller Drive, Harbor Springs, 49740.
Building Storage Rack Systems
March 18, 2005In addition to the huge lumber barns on site, plenty of covered exterior storage is being built. These systems go together like huge tinkertoy projects and require some big machines to complete.
Moeller Drive Shipping & Receiving
The relocation of our distribution center located on Emmet Street in Petoskey is complete. Over the past several weeks, load by load, building materials, windows, doors, cabinetry and appliances have been relocated to brand new, spacious storage facilities on Moeller Drive in Harbor Springs.
The photo shows our temporary office at Moeller nestled between the two buildings housing the specialty shipping and receiving. The new sheds give us about 20,000 square feet of clean, dry and flat warehouse storage to devote entirely to our specialty departments; windows and doors; kitchen and bath. With six garage doors to load and unload products, we should be able to process your orders more quickly and efficiently.
Spring Break BBQ
Week of April 4With delightful spring weather in early April, an impromptu BBQ was held at the new offices of what we once new as Emmet Street. Staff from all locations came to see how our project is coming along.
Final Paving Applied

This week efforts have been made to complete the driveways and yard area. Last fall the first coat of asphalt was applied; this week the final coat has been finished in nearly every area outside. Rains did halt progress a bit. In addition, flooring, perimeter fencing, and the woodwork shop is installed.
Bright New Shelving Installed
In the Building Center side of our new retail showroom, the flooring has been installed and shelving is taking shape. Every day we add new merchandise to the new shelves. Things are looking bright and new as we get ready for a "Preview Night" on Thursday May 19, between 3:30 and 7:30 PM.
Landscaping Installed
The landscaping has been installed with new trees, shrubs and grass creating a more welcoming look to the exterior of our new showroom.
Join Us For Preview Night
Make plans to stop by after work to check out the progress of our new store. On Thursday May 19, between 3:30 and 7:30 pm. Snacks and beverages will be served along with tours of the new facility.
Preview Night Great Fun
A steady stream of guests toured our new facilities last Thursday afternoon and into the evening. Great food, cold beverages and warm hospitality greeted friends, family and neighbors for this sneak preview event, including our new neighbor Kiss Carpet showing off their new showroom adjacent to our kitchen, bath and window showroom. Just a few more weeks before we are up and running completely at Moeller Drive.
Important Moving Information
The move from M-119 to Moeller Drive has been scheduled. Please plan for our Harbor Springs store to close at 1:00 pm Friday, June 10. The move to Moeller will continue through the weekend. Monday, June 13, join us at Moeller Drive where we will be open for business at 6:30 am sharp. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.
We Made It!
June 13, 2005Many devoted people worked long hours during hot weather, drenching thunderstorms and into the night over the weekend to make this possible. We couldn't have done this without the help and support of the entire Preston Feather Crew!
We Made It!
Our newest store and warehouse facility opened as planned 6:30 am Monday June 13, 2005. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this possible including staff from Petoskey and Gaylord along with the Harbor Springs Crew.
